Guest Speaker: Wes Regan, Executive Director, Hastings Crossing Business Improvement Association (HxBIA)
Wes in his presentation will provide a historical context for the Downtown Eastside (DTES) showing current economic revitalization and outline emerging trends for the DTES.
Wes has been the Executive Director for the Hastings Crossing Business Improvement Association since April 2011 and before that worked in business development and communications for Building Opportunities with Business, a multi-governmental 3P community economic development agency in the DTES. He led the creation of the HxBIA brand, communications strategy and public engagement strategy through its first three years. Wes will provide his insights to the current status of the Vancouver Downtown Eastside Local Area Planning work as he is a Planning Committee member.
Through his own consulting firm Shape Content he is also managing social impact purchasing and social impact procurement projects with Fast Track to Employment and with Building Opportunities with Business, assisting developers and other large businesses in hiring residents with barriers to employment and purchasing from social enterprises and social impact businesses.
Wes is the Chair of the BIA Partnerships' Local Economic Development Committee and Treasurer of the Vancouver Urban Farming Society and is a proud graduate of both Langara College and SFU.
