Message From The President

Since 1917, the MIABC has been an active real estate industry association working to build professionalism and a strong network amongst a wide range of real estate professionals with an interest in mortgage lending.  In 2010, the MIABC was incorporated as a legal non reporting society in the province of BC, in what has marked the start of a series of modernizing changes for the Association.

Three years ago, the MIABC struck a Strategic Planning Committee with a mandate to draft a new vision and mission for our Association. Through member outreach and feedback, an updated focused direction for our Association’s future was formed.  Last year, in keeping with the spirit of this vision, the board presented and members approved a revised constitution with broader criteria for membership that includes retiring members. There is no doubt that these changes will foster the transfer of knowledge and mentoring that is required to ensure a bright and sustainable future for our Association.

This year, the board is very pleased to present the final piece to this modernization in the form of a complete set of revised bi-laws for your consideration. This was no small task and I’d like to thank the legal counsel of Richards Buell Sutton for all of their hard work.

Other highlights from the past year include:

-    Upgrades to member experience and user functionality of the MIABC Website
-    Financial streamlining of our accounts
-    Membership growth to 520 individual members representing 94 Corporations; an increase of 13% over the previous year
-    Last but not least, we were able to give back, and as a group we donated $7500 over the course of the year to the Vancouver Food Bank.

Looking forward, the board remains focused and dedicated to providing ongoing value for members through free networking events, luncheons, insightful speaker topics and panels as well as the very successful golf tournament and holiday functions. There will be further improvements to our website and a focus on attracting new lenders, investors, and partners to our organization to keep us informed of key matters and issues impacting the mortgage industry.

This year marks two notable departures from the board; Rick Maysenhoelder and Michael Shane.  I’d like to take this opportunity to thank each of you for your combined over 30 years of volunteer service to this organization. There is no doubt your contributions have helped shape the MIABC to what it is today and for that we are exceptionally grateful. Personally, it has been a pleasure to work with and get to know each of you.

In addition to the rest of the hardworking, volunteer board, I would also like to thank Kosta ChatziSpiros for his support of the MIABC board and its membership in his role as Executive Director.

It is the members of the MIABC that make this industry association such a valuable part of BC’s Real Estate and Mortgage investment community. My sincerest thanks to all the members that support the activities that are held and continue to participate to make each event a success.

It’s been a great year.  Thank you!

Amanda Magee
2012-2013 MIABC President
